Design Finds: Holiday Place Card Holders

In honor of the upcoming holiday we have selected our favorite ideas for displaying place cards on your holiday table.  We have chosen our four favorite casual place card holder ideas and four fancy ideas for the more elegant gathering.  I know you may be thinking place cards are not needed at a casual gathering and they are certainly not required (one of our favorites doesn’t even have a place to put a name; it just looks nice on your table).  However, just because an event is casual does not mean you have to count out using place cards.  I for one have casual gatherings all the time, but I love to make everything look nice and designed visually.  Place cards can be a nice visual touch to add to the space and it can even add to your holiday theme.

Casual Entertaining Favorites:

First up we have a simple solution that wraps your place cards and napkins up in one nice package.  Use a piece of string or twine to tie a rolled up napkin and attach a name in a metal frame to it.  This easy to make solution can be made with supplies from your local craft store (most can be found in the scrap booking section).  Print names onto decorative paper and then fit into metal pendant frames and tie to napkins with the string or twine.

Next, keep it fun with game inspired place cards like these scrabble letter holders that spell out each guests name.  After dinner maybe a round of Scrabble is in order.

One of our favorite finds is these DIY Turkey Feather place cards.  They fit in perfectly at your Thanksgiving table and give you something to do with all those wine corks you may have been collecting.  It is an easy project that will wow your guests.  Click here to see the tutorial from Almost Makes Perfect.

Lastly, as we mentioned maybe you want your guests to sit wherever they want, but still want to add a little something to each place setting.  Just add a miniature pumpkin to the top of each place setting.  It adds a decorative touch and is a great addition during the fall holidays.  When the event is over you can use them in a display or let each guest take theirs home.

And for a Fancier Gathering:

We love pumpkins and think these place card holders we found in the Sideshows shop on Etsy are a perfect way to fancy up a pumpkin.  These wire pumpkins paired with a fancy printed place card are an elegant yet modern way to dress up a more sophisticated table.

Next we found these Handmade Paper Flower Place Cards from Carrieklein on Etsy.  These gorgeous flowers are made of paper and feathers.  We love the fall colors (there are other color options available in the shop).  Set one atop each plate; add the name card and you have a gorgeous display as your guests arrive.

If you are still looking to go even fancier with the place settings than look no further than the Ivory and Brown Satin ribbon with Fall Leaves from ReservedSeating on Etsy.  Handmade from Organza Satin wired ribbon with the addition of a leaf detail these are perfect for your Thanksgiving table or any fall event you may have.  More colors are available so you can pick your favorite fall colors or use the combination we have pictured (it is our favorite, the ivory ribbon really lets the leaf detail stand out)

Lastly, we have our favorite fancy pick.  Velvet leaves!  This is an elegant way to display your place cards, but can also be a DIY project which we love.  Cut leaves out of gorgeous velvet fabrics and ribbons.  Use a template from the internet or trace a cookie cutter.  Layer a couple of leaves together, punch a hole at the base and use coordinating ribbon to attach a printed place card.  Mix up the shape and color of the leaves if you want as well.  Create a fall setting on your table as if you were dining under the trees.

  1. Hmm it looks like your site ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll
just sum it up what I wrote and say, I’m thoroughly
enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to everything.
Do you have any points for inexperienced blog writers? I’d
    certainly appreciate it.

    1. We recommend finding blogs you really love and reading them, but don’t stick to just the ones you love. Really search all different kinds of blogs to see how a lot of people are doing things, but really when all is said and done do it the way you want to do it, make it yours, not just a copy of how someone else is doing it. We find it helps to be consistent. Pick a couple days a week to post and stick to it so people know when to look for your posts. This will help to get people coming back. Once you know how much time you have for posts you can add to the frequency of posts. Hope this helps. Let us know when your blog is up and running. We would love to check it out!
