Decorigami – Nursery Furniture that Transforms

Let’s face it, all the new furniture you end up needing for baby can add up pretty quickly, almost as quickly as your new baby is going to outgrow a lot of that furniture.  That is why we have selected a couple of items that transform with your child or have a dual purpose.  This way the furniture will last and last while your baby grows and grows.

Gro Furniture convertible Crib

1.)    The Bam B. from Gro Furniture – This is the perfect crib to suit so many purposes.  First it is a crib which can be adjusted to 2 different positions.  Next it can be a play table, then a toddler bed and when your toddler outgrows that it can be a desk.  In addition to its multiple functions it is made of solid birch ply with low-VOC, non-toxic finishes.  This will be a perfect addition to your nursery… toddler room… and more.

Ubabub Pod Crib

2.)    The Pod Crib from Ubabbub – We love the modern look of this crib and the fact that it incorporated clear acrylic sides into the design.  This allows for full viewing of baby at all times.  There are laser cut star shaped cutouts for proper ventilation.  This crib has multiple uses as well.  The crib has 2 height settings and can then be converted into a Junior Bed with the conversion kit.  The stylish modern look of this crib and toddler bed will keep it in style for years to come as your baby grows.

Nursery Works District Crib

3.)    The District Crib from Nursery Works – Another environmentally friendly option this crib is made from repurposing white oak from an Alabama train depot and the finish is a non-toxic, zero VOC, natural oil and wax based finish.  This makes for a stunning statement piece in the nursery when used as a crib and can then be easily converted into a full size desk.  So even if your child does not want it, this is a piece of furniture that is fit for the adults and you can use it yourself when baby has outgrown it.  We think it is great to have for future children as well.  Just use it as a desk until it is time for baby again and you will already have a stylish crib.

YiAhn Bassinet

4.)    YiAhn Bassinet – This piece of furniture is a lot of fun and is another one that has several uses for years to come.  From the moment baby is born you can use it as a bassinet.  Once your baby has outgrown that it is converted into toy bins and a bookshelf.  This will work in your child’s room for years to come.  But that’s not all, it can also be converted into a table and chair set.   We loved the versatility of this and that it also provided storage which you know you can never have enough toy storage.  This is also environmentally friendly being made from Plyboo bamboo plywood.

5.)    Koo by Sandrine Lebas – We love the simplicity of this dual purpose piece of furniture.  It starts as a bassinet and then makes an incredibly simple transformation into a rocker.  It is modern, clean and uncluttered.  It is a space that the parents and baby can share as needed which makes it a great addition for anyone short on space.

DIY DAY – Gondola Diaper Cake Tutorial

Gondola Diaper Cake DIY - A Step by Step Guide

Every time I have a baby shower to attend I am always trying to find something fun and creative to give as a gift and also give the new mom some of the things she actually wants to have.  I love to make diaper cakes and wanted something unique this time.  The friends this was made for took their honeymoon in Italy (the husband is Italian) and will be giving their new baby an Italian name so we wanted something with an Italian theme, which is how we landed on the idea of making a gondola.  My friend was registered at Buy Buy Baby where we purchased most of the supplies for the gondola off the list of what she actually wanted.  The wave baby blanket was added when I found it while attending Phoenix Flea.  I purchased this from Mariette Market Children’s Boutique and it had the perfect wave design to make it look like our Gondola was gliding through the water.  With just a little bit of time you too can make this for a friend.  It actually ended up being a lot easier to figure out than I had thought it would be.  Projects never go that smoothly!  It ended up being a hit and everyone at the shower, including the new parents to be, absolutely LOVED it!

Textile Tuesday – Nursery Fabrics

This week we are featuring three different companies we have found that offer a great selection of fabrics for the nursery.  Rather than just picking our favorites we just want you to be able to find the companies and take a look at all they have to offer on their sites.  There are so many options when it comes to nursery design and these 3 companies have something for everyone.  If you are getting ready to design a nursery you are sure to find the perfect fabric on one of their sites.  Here they are:

Textile Tuesday - FINDS Blog - Monaluna Fabrics - Modern Home Collection

Monaluna – This is a small independent fabric company out of Walnut Creek, CA.  All of the fabrics are GOTS-certified organic being printed on premium organic cotton with a high thread count.  We love these fabrics for their fun modern feel.  You can find fabrics to work with a children’s theme, fabrics for a more modern nursery, and even fabrics that will work for baby, but also grow with them.  The use of bright modern colors and patterns made us want to share all the great patterns with our followers.  Be sure to check them out at www.monaluna.com

Textile Tuesday - FINDS Blog - New Arrivals Inc - Fabric by the Yard

New Arrivals Inc. – This company is great because they have options and fabric by the yard is one of them.  Not only do they offer bedding, décor, drapery, and all the other items you could possible want in your nursery, but they also offer custom options and love doing it.  You can select from any of their fabrics to make custom bedding.  The other great part is that the fabrics they offer also coordinate with the products they offer.  Maybe you just want to buy some ready-made bedding, but have a specific project in mind for the nursery, use the fabric by the yard option to get fabric that will work with what you have already selected.  Be sure to check them out at www.newarrivalsinc.com

Textile Tuesday - FINDS Blog - Living 63 Fabric by the Yard

Living 63 – Another company that specializes in products for baby and nursery design.  They offer unique prints and great modern design.  You can mix and match any of their fabrics for a one of a kind look.  This is another company that offers ready-made items and the fabric to coordinate with them.  It is perfect for the DIYer who doesn’t want to make everything, but still has some special projects in mind.  Check them out at https://living63.com/fabric.html

Chair of the Month – The Empire Rocker

F.I.N.D.S. May Chair of the Month - The Empire Rocker from Nursery Works

This month we decided there would be no better Chair of the Month than a rocker.  What nursery is complete without a big comfy rocker for mom (or dad) to rock baby to sleep in and let’s face it you may even end up sleeping there a little yourself too.  That is why when you look for a rocker you want something that is large enough to be comfortable, but not too large that it overpowers or takes over the room.  Something with a high back for support and a nice comfortable cushion would be ideal.  Now there are a lot of rockers out there that offer comfort without style or a huge dose of style, but are lacking in comfort.  Why can’t you have both?

Well you can have both, with the Empire Rocker from Nursery Works.  This is an oversized (but not too oversized) rocker that even has childproof upholstery.  This rocker takes the form of a tufted classic wingback chair and has just the right amount of style, while still offering you the comfort and cleanliness you deserve.  It is offered in three microsuede fabric options.  The upholstery is done by hand so the chair stays wrinkle free forever, it is soft to the touch and the best part is the fabric is water and stain resistant.  It is the perfect addition to any classic or modern nursery.  This rocker will work in both!

Design Finds: It’s a Girl!

Design Finds - Its A Girl - How to Adapt our Gender Neutral Nursery to a Girls Nursery

This month our May Monthly Mood Board was devoted to all things baby and we put together a gender neutral nursery.  The items we picked for the monthly mood board are great all on their own or you can use those items as a base for your nursery and expand on the décor to make it more suited to either a boy or a girl.  For our last post we transformed the nursery into one fit for a boy and today we will be selecting additional elements to add to our gender neutral nursery to transform it into a nursery fit for a girl.  By designing the nursery in this way you can get a head start on everything and then add the last little details once you find out if you are having a boy or a girl… or better yet, these items can easily be added once baby has arrived if you are getting surprised.  Check out below for our picks to make this nursery fit for the most precious of little baby girls.

1.)    First we selected a rug to add to the room.  We love the girly detail and fun colors that this Candy Dot Rug from The Land of Nod adds to the room.  It brightens the space and makes it more fit for a little girl, but is still modern and works with our theme.  The yellow in the rug nicely picks up on the yellow finish of the crib.

2.)    Next we found these fantastic Ombre Ruffled Curtains from HGTV.  These particular ones were made from bed sheets.  You can find complete DIY instructions here.  We love the ruffley detail that adds texture to the window area and another touch of girleyness to the room.

3.)    You can never have enough storage in a kid’s room.  We love the Tricolor Wall Shelf in Pink from The Land of Nod.  It makes the perfect spot to start your child’s book collection.  Use just one shelf or stack a few and make a bookshelf wall.  It is secured to the wall so there is no fear of a bookcase tipping over on your child.

4.)    No nursery is complete without a great rocker or glider.  We selected the Joya Rocker in a Yellow body fabric with a heather grey pillow and white wood base from Monte.  We love the modern, yet classic design of this rocker as well as its size.  This is another rocker that will fit into even the smallest of nursery spaces. It has a tall supportive back to ensure the ultimate in comfort for mom or dad on those late nights.

5.)    Every nursery needs some lighting for those late night feedings.  We chose the Checkmate Floor Lamp in Pink from The Land of Nod.  We love the modern, but classic lines of the lamp base and the pop of color it will add to the corner of the room.

6.)    Lastly, we fell in love with the Euro Storage Suitcases – Pinkberry with Yellow Handles from Rosenberry Rooms.  These add a great pop of bright, girly color to the space and make the perfect place to store some items out of site and out of babies reach.  Use the small top case to store some extra burp cloths or swaddling blankets for those late night feedings or when rocking her to sleep.

Design Finds: It’s a Boy!

Design Finds - Its A Boy - How to Adapt our Gender Neutral Nursery to a Boys Nursery

This month our May Monthly Mood Board was devoted to all things baby and we put together a gender neutral nursery.  The items we picked for the monthly mood board are great all on their own or you can use those items as a base for your nursery and expand on the décor to make it more suited to either a boy or a girl.  In today’s post we have selected additional elements to add to our gender neutral nursery to transform it into a nursery fit for a boy.  By designing the nursery in this way you can get a head start on everything and then add the last little details once you find out if you are having a boy or a girl… or better yet, these items can easily be added once baby has arrived if you are getting surprised.  Check out below for our picks to make this nursery fit for the most adorable of little baby boys.

1.)    First we selected a rug to add to the room.  We kept the rug in shades of blue for a boy, but selected one that still worked with our Penguin theme.  Penguins are always diving into icy cold water in search of fish so this Jaipur Coastal Living Schooled Aegean Blue Hand Tufted Wool Rug from Layla Grayce was the perfect addition adding a school of fish swimming right under your little penguins crib.

2.)    Next we selected a nautical window treatment that also has a manly feel to it.  The best part about the Caspian Striped Curtain Panel from Posh Tots is that it can grow with your child.  It works with the nursery décor, but is not too babyish to make the shift to a toddler room.

3.)    You can never have enough storage in a kid’s room.  We love the Tricolor Wall Shelf in Blue from The Land of Nod.  It makes the perfect spot to start your child’s book collection.  Use just one shelf or stack a few and make a bookshelf wall.  It is secured to the wall so there is no fear of a bookcase tipping over on your child.

4.)    No nursery is complete without a great rocker or glider.  We selected the Grano Glider Recliner in a Charcoal body fabric with the Missoni pillow from Monte.  We love this glider for its modern, streamlined look.  It is not too big and bulky so it will fit into even the smallest of nursery spaces.  It also gives you the option to prop your feet up and recline (the gliding stops when chair is reclined).  This gives many options for comfort for mom or dad on those late nights.

5.)    Every nursery needs some lighting for those late night feedings.  We love the two toned shades of blue that really represent the Arctic Ocean waters the penguins live in.  We used the Blue Lighten Up Floor Shade with Graphite Base from The Land of Nod.

6.)    Lastly, we love the idea of using this Toy Caddy in Blue from Rosenberry Rooms.  It is the perfect addition to place next to your glider.  It is great storage for some of baby’s favorite toys and stuffed animals as well as a convenient place to roll up and place some baby blankets and burp cloths that may be needed when feeding or rocking baby to sleep.

May Monthly Mood Board – Moms Bundle of Joy

Finds - May - Monthly Mood Board - Moms Bundle of Joy

In celebration of Mother’s Day we are going to focus on everything for baby this month, starting with a great gender neutral nursery.  I absolutely love penguins and thing it is a great subject for this nursery.  I see a lot of safari animals in nursery décor and wanted to give some love to animals from a colder climate.  The neutral greys, grey blues, and yellow all lend the perfect color palette for this gender neutral nursery.  The perfect thing is you can start with this as a base and then add simple touches later to gear the nursery towards a boy or a girl.  We will be showing you how to do that in our posts next week.  For now, check out our picks for our adorable penguin nursery.

1.)    DIY Sweet Dreams Ceiling Medallion from Marie Ricci Collection – Everyone wants their baby to sleep soundly and have some sweet dreams.  We love this as an added ceiling detail to hang the mobile from.  Purchase the ceiling medallion which is ready to paint and then once you receive it you can prime and paint the medallion to match any nursery décor.

2.)    Baby Crib mobile – Penguin Mobile from LincKids on Etsy – This adorable penguin mobile is all custom and handmade from Eco Friendly felt and non-allergenic premium fiberfill.  The colors of the mobile can also be matched to your décor at no extra charge.

3.)    Penguin Prints from Crystal Gayle Photo on Etsy – We absolutely love the idea of penguin photography using a stuffed penguin.  It is a fun idea to add to a kid’s room that adds a little more of a fun factor than framing images of actual penguins.  The images we chose are entitled Penguin Chick and Little Feet

4.)    Caravan Crib by Kalon – We love the modern lines of this crib that will fit into any décor.  It has an adjustable mattress height and can be converted into a toddler bed.  It is made with sustainable materials and production methods and offered in multiple colors.  We love the pop of bright yellow in our penguin nursery.

5.)    Arctic Animals Set of Four Art Prints by Niko and Lily on Etsy – We just think these arctic animal prints are too cute!  They make a great arrangement over the changing table.  The best part is the shop offers a variety of sizes and additional color options to work with any color combination you have in mind for your nursery.

6.)    Penguin Bookend from My Bonzu – This makes a great addition to any shelf, bookshelf, or to even prop things up on the changing table dresser.  The penguin is made of leather and polyester fiber.  It is weighted to it can support heavy items and books.

7.)    Three Tier Basket from Crate and Barrel – We love the idea of using this iron wire tiered basked as an organizer on the changing table.  Use it to organize diapers, wipes, washcloths, burp cloths, and maybe some small stuffed animals or rattles to occupy baby while changing.  It is an easy way to keep your most needed items right where you need them and easy to access, especially if you only have one hand available.

8.)    Blake Dresser with Changer Top from The Land of Nod – We love the modern look of this dresser along with it closed and open storage.  Safety is a consideration and the dresser includes a Tip Restraint Kit for securing the dresser to the wall.  Add the changer top and you have a dresser and changing table.  This is a space saver and allows you to have the storage you need.

9.)    Not a Peep Crib Bedding from The Land of Nod – We love the neutral colors of this bedding and the great mix of prints available.

10.) Penguin Plush and Neck Pillow from Pottery Barn Kids – These are great additions to add to a rocking chair in the nursery and give mom (or dad) a soft place to lay their head when needed.

11.) The Purl Bee Penguin DIY – Every kid needs stuffed animals (and you can never have too many when you are a kid). We love these DIY penguins that we found on the Purl Bee site.  Complete instructions to make your own including a supplies list and free pattern download can be found here.
